Abstract
Due to a doubling of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) on the unit since 2022, this quality improvement project aims to implement and evaluate an early progressive mobility program. HAPIs are a preventable complication, especially detrimental to ICU patients already facing complex medical issues. This project draws on evidence supporting early mobilization and pressure injury prevention techniques, such as those described by Azuh et al. (2016) and Pittman et al. (2021), to reduce HAPI incidence. The project will benefit all patients by promoting strength recovery and preventing complications like blood clots. All 18 current patients on the unit will be evaluated for HAPI risk, with those requiring total assistance prioritized for intervention. Data will be collected using a tool to be developed, and the program's effectiveness will be measured by tracking HAPI rates.
