Description

After initial groundbreaking ceremonies in 1976, a historic one-day move took place on April 7, 1979, to the new Ocean Breeze campus. Pictured here, the National Guard safeguarded caravans of ambulances as the Staten Island Hospital clinical team, under CEO Barry Zeman, transported patients and equipment from the Castleton Avenue complex to the new ultra-high-tech facility at 475 Sea View Avenue. On this day, patients ate breakfast at the old hospital and dinner in the new one.
