Description
Dr. Étienne Stéphane Tarnier, a French Obstetrician, constructed warming chambers after his research at the Paris Zoo. These warming chambers would later become known as neonatal incubators. They were first introduced at L'Hôpital Paris Maternité in 1880. Dr. Pierre Budin began publishing reports of the successes of these incubators in 1888. This invention has helped sustain life for premature babies for generations by solving the lethal results of thermoregulation. Pictured here is a nursery filled with rows of bassinets, and an incubator to the back left.
