Description

Based on the National EMS Museum, throughout World War I and II, new ambulance designs and response procedures ensured more wounded soldiers were removed to field hospitals and survived the horrific injuries they suffered during battle. Things like shocks, swinging cots and on-board medical equipment started to make regular appearances in ambulances designed and built during wartime. Staten Island Hospital’s first three motorized emergency vehicles, purchased in 1912, 1914, and 1917. This photograph is circa 1925.
