Abstract
This initiative addresses the need for a standardized approach to assessing religious and spiritual needs in oncology patients, recognizing their impact on coping mechanisms, satisfaction, and overall health outcomes. Despite Northwell's existing policy, current admission procedures lack a comprehensive spiritual assessment beyond asking about chaplaincy. Drawing on evidence that highlights the positive effects of spiritual care on pain, anxiety, depression, and coping, the project proposes implementing the FICA Spiritual History Tool. This questionnaire, provided to patients upon admission, aims to facilitate a more in-depth understanding of their spiritual/religious needs, thereby improving patient and family coping and promoting holistic, patient-centered care.
